Hey Everyone!
I had a successful day on court today. I won my match, 62 46 63, against Sorana Cirstea. The match was a little up and down, but both of us fought the entire time, so it was a tough one. But as I said yesterday, I think that my hockey team the Vancouver Canucks winning their game was a good omen for today :) After my match was done I went out to the practice courts after press. Coach and I wanted to work on a few things that were still fresh in our minds. I'll be playing in the quarterfinals tomorrow against Coco Vandeweghe.
I realize this is on the WTA website, but I have to give a shout out to a fellow Canadian who is doing very well at the present moment on the men's side. I went to watch a bit of Milos Raonic's match against Verdasco this evening. Milos is another Canadian tennis player, and he won his first ATP title last week in San Jose, funnily enough against Verdasco. They pulled each other first round here, so I wanted to watch a little bit of the match. I only watched the first set, but it was amazing the number of aces I saw! Also the bounces off the serve were so high it was going over the fence and into the crowd. I'm pretty sure a couple of people were centimeters away from bruises or black eyes! I included a picture from the start of the match... It's from my phone, so the quality may not be good. It ended up that Milos won; I left early because of my match tomorrow. Also Daniel Nestor won his doubles match, so I feel I can say today was a great day for Canadians in Memphis.
I've also been slacking off this week on my French. I've been taking a university course online, and I have my final written exam next Wednesday in Montreal. I haven't looked at the textbook in quite a while... Ruh Roh! (Channeling my inner Scooby, sorry!) Since I've been living and training in Montreal for the past year, I've been making an effort to learn French because not only do they speak French in Montreal, but also our country is technically bilingual. I'm too nervous/shy to speak yet in front of people I know well, including my coach. And I figure he will read this blog too and totally hassle me for this! I will let you know about my prediction regarding that tomorrow...

What sport have you never tried but want to have a go at? Ravi
A sport that has always interested me has been Lacrosse. A little bit of a strange one, but it fascinates me! It's similar to hockey, but very different too. Cool fact about lacrosse: it's actually Canada's national summer sport!
Who is your favorite Pokemon character? Patricia, Germany
My favourite Pokemon character would have to be Squirtle! Although I hold a little place in my heart for Pikachu too!
What were your expectations going into your match with Venus at the US Open? Patrick, USA
For my match at the US Open against Venus, I honestly had no expectations. I knew I had a little chance. It's just like in the movie Dumb and Dumber: "One in a million"... "You mean I have a chance?" I just went out there thinking about what I could do, what the strengths within my game were and basically hoped I would play a good match!
Do you know any Elvis songs? Sarah
I know a couple of Elvis songs, but I need to brush up on them while I'm in Memphis! I know "Hound Dog" and "A Little Less Conversation", and there are a few more I've heard. What a truly great musician Elvis was, all those classic hits!
