Me in Auckland...

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

This is my first time doing something like this for the WTA. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I hope to do my job well. I was reading Rebecca's blog from last week and she did a great job so hopefully I can keep it up!

I came here from Europe and didn't get my luggage for the first few days. this is the second time my luggage got lost...

The first time, I didn't get it for eight days. It was so bad, you have no idea. My stuff is what gives me my home when I'm away. I survived on a few things in my racquet bag. The funny thing was nobody could give me ANY information on where the luggage was. After five days, Hong Kong responded saying they never received my luggage, so I was sure it was in Amsterdam. I called but they didn't want to answer the phone. It was such a mess. So I asked a friend who I used to play club matches with in Amsterdam - I wrote him a huge text message telling him about the situation. I asked him if he could go to the airport and he did, and after two hours they found my bag there. WITHOUT THE TAG! So that's what happened... he called me at 3am (I told him to call me at any hour, it didn't matter!) They sent it and two days later it came. Luckily I had a washing machine in my room because I was washing the same clothes every day!

Maybe you're wondering why I told you that whole story... well, it's because that all happened in Auckland - and I won that tournament - so hopefully it brings me good luck :) Now I'm going to be dangerous because I lost my bag again.

Auckland was a great start to the year. I knew I had good preparation behind me, but I didn't expect to win anything... but then again, people usually win when they don't expect it. I beat good players - like Maria Sharapova, everybody knows her, she's the queen and the star and a great player. It was definitely the biggest win I've ever had. And I really do respect her in every way - she's professional and not cocky at all, and she was very nice with the media (she told everybody I played well and deserved to win... it was nice, I like that).

I play in Acapulco every year. I love the resort. It's a beautiful area. The atmosphere is unbelievable. I also grew up on clay and like clay, so why not?

My coach arrived Monday. I think I'm the only girl on the tour always travelling by myself! He doesn't really like to travel. He did this trip for me and he's coming to Monterrey too, so it's something special.

I play my first match against Edina Gallovits-Hall. We've played a few times against each other and she's a tough opponent. Hopefully it goes my way. It's the third match... so we'll be playing in the heat. I love the heat. I don't like the humidity, but I like the heat. Dry heat. Indian Wells is also one of my favorites. Many players think it's boring, but I think it's perfect that there's two weeks in a year where you just relax and there's not too much noise. I like that lifestyle.

Thanks for reading today... I'll talk to you tomorrow!

Greta

P.S. I will be taking some pictures this week with my Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 phone... below is the first one, it's me after breakfast today.
