Me in Acapulco, me in a Getting To Know interview...

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Hello again everyone :)

So, yesterday was my first match in Acapulco. I wake up differently when I'm having a match, but in a good way. There's a little voice in my stomach talking to me. It's preparing me already in the morning. But I'm pretty calm. I'm a very calm person. It's a nice feeling of nervousness, but in a positive way.

I had breakfast with my coach. We were sitting at the water, it was a nice start to the day. Then I had to rush to my warm-up - well, I was supposed to have a court at 11, and when I got there it was down for 12, but thanks to the girls there I got 11 again! I was third match after 11. I got lucky because the first two matches played three sets, so I didn't start until around 5pm, not too hot.

I had played Edina Gallovits-Hall a couple of times before. I know I'm not her favorite to play. I feel comfortable against her. I played my game and enjoyed it out there and was able to win, 64 64. The first match of a tournament is always tough, and this is my first match on clay too. I didn't play for a while on clay. It was a quiet, calm match though, with no problems. Everything was good. Nothing unusual. This is my fifth year playing here and there was only ever one rain delay. It was strange, there's heat, sun and palm trees, then all of a sudden it was grey and raining. But it was only one day. I can deal with that :)

I'm really liking Acapulco. The fans come to watch on all the courts. My match was on an outside court and it was still pretty full. I hope they enjoyed it!

I had another hit with my coach later and then headed back to the hotel.

I love steak. I actually eat steak every day - I love beef, I love meat. I can sleep really well if I've had steak. I get hungry for it. My favorite type of restaurant is Italian and we went there tonight and I had steak. I'm the kind of person who can do the same thing every day and it never gets boring - like eating steak!

I love food. If you give me food, I'm happy. It's hard when you travel to eat well, but I can handle it in most of the world. Sometimes when I'm travelling in Asia it's hard, I don't usually like the food there. It's good in Tokyo and Beijing, and they have nice restaurants in the hotel, but at smaller tournaments I would go nuts... and I didn't just try it once, I keep trying it every year. 90% of players love sushi but I can't have it. I can't eat raw fish. It's not cooked. I think about my steak and it's nice and grilled, hot... but sushi is cold. The rice is like glue. The green stuff around it tastes like the ocean and I'm not a fan of seafood.

I try it every year though - maybe one day I'll end up liking it :)

Today I'm second after 3 on Court 1. It's in a bit of shade, which is nice. I'm playing against Renata Voracova. I've never played her before. I don't know what to expect. Sometimes it's better that way, because then I'm not thinking about it too much. My coach will tell me something about her, I'm sure.

Have a nice day and I'll talk to you all again tomorrow!
