So, I'm going to go ahead and say it.
Lose Yourself, by Eminem, is an international pump song.
This morning when Kim and I were in the gym, and that song came on the radio---everybody stopped. We all looked at each other and we started bopping our heads. Not in the way that your parents do, but the swagger way. You know what I'm talking about.
So everyone starts looking around and the music engrosses you. Whatever exercise you're doing, you decide that you're going to go all out. The adrenaline kicks in. You feel a rush all around you right around the "there's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti." That's when I knew it was on. And you know what? It wasn't even MATCH day yet.
Kim walked over to the radio and went ahead and cranked it. Everyone in there agreed in unison. We all started lip synching, or rapping (only if you have swag), and the rest just listened.
Dang, how does that not fire you up? I straight up took off my headphones just to listen to Marshall do his thing.
Phew. Wow. Alright, moving on!
Today I got to sleep in because I had a 12 o'clock hit with fellow American, Lauren Davis. We didn't practice during the heat of the day, but we did get to play with the sun right in our faces. Go ahead and bear with me here. Imagine tossing a ball in the air while you're outside and looking at the sun, and then try to hit in a specific box with power, control, AND accuracy... I mean, it is definitely a test. But hey, how do you get better in tennis? You put yourself in as many uncomfortable situations as possible. You're never going to hear about playing perfect, but you might as well shoot for it.
Oh and by the way, the picture you see? Oh yeah, that's the limousine bus that we took to the site. As you can see from my invisible entourage, we needed the ENTIRE 58 seater bus. Let me tell you, it may look lame, but having a whole bus to yourself is pretty gnarly. Yeah, I *totally* just said gnarly.
OK, so there's more fun stuff to come---THE WTA PHYSICAL! For those of you that have had physicals done, I'm sure you can attest to the fact that they are time consuming. But, did they take 3 HOURS!?! I didn't think so! No joke friends, a 3 hour physical. Now now, I'm not hating on the WTA. Trust me! A physical is a mandatory exam that makes sure that we're keeping up our swag. No wrong in that.
After an extensive examination of how far my elbow can rotate forward and backward, I was finally dismissed with an exciting little departing gift. A protein shake mixer bottle thing, *duh!*
But wait! It doesn't stop there!
Today I had a very fun experience.
For those of you that watch the tennis channel, ya'll know what BAG CHECK is. And guess what? This girl right here did one! Now, I'm not going to go and spoil the never before seen items that were featured today. I'm going to go ahead and let you see it on TV. You can point, laugh, and then wave. I promise I'll wave back.
BUT WAIT! Ha, wow, I sound like an infommercial. Anyway, I was far from done. I got to do another little number called "Getting to know you." It was fun, I got to sit in front of the green screen, had a bunch of cameras in my face, and was all mic'd up with my own little mic. Yay!
Dinner time---and guess where we went? LG's steakhouse of course! Thanks Tim, now you have Kim and I addicted. Anyway, my agent, Jordan Butler decided to take us out to LG's for Round two. And trust me, it did not disappoint one bit. Oh and Jordan, I'll get you some asparagus next time ;)
Once done, it was time to get my act together and get my practice arranged. Stadium 1, first up at 11. Talk about getting it going! Let's go!
Just remember to lose yourself.
You only get one shot. (No pun intended)
Who are your closest friends on the tour? Brett, Egypt
My closest friends on the tour are definitely the American girls. We are definitely building an awesome relationship amongst us all that is tightening up every day.
What do you think of your first opponent, Alexandra Dulgheru? Adrian, Romania
I think Alexandra is a very good player. She's only one year older, but she's definitely got more experience than me. I know she's been doing well, so it's going to be a great battle.
If you had to take a cross country road trip by car, who on tour would you take with you? Kelyn
If I had to take a cross country road trip by car and could choose anyone from the tour---I'd take Rafa. Duh.
