It's a special feeling to wake up and know that you have a WTA final to play. Okay it's doubles but it's a final. This is why you work hard, all those hours of grinding on the court and all hours of fitness. Playing in finals makes it all worth it!!
Same routine as usual with breakfast and Starbucks. They must be getting tired of us in there.... "Oh no, there comes those two again. Always ordering the same drink twice a day..."
I'm sometimes a little superstitious, not too much but a little. I think it was worse when I was younger. I remember one junior tournament I played. I ate the same meal twice a day for a week because I kept winning when I was eating it. I can tell you I was a bit tired of that pasta after that tournament...
Me and Johanna warmed up at 5pm. After that she had to go to the hotel 'cause she forgot her skirt. We both thought that was a good idea since playing without it might have been a little embarrassing.
The singles match before us went fast 'cause Sabine Lisicki had to retire. Really unlucky for her in a final to not feel well. But I must say well done to the person kicking me out from the tournament, Marina Erakovic... I know she is a hard-working girl and really deserved her first singles title. Big congrats to Marina and her coach Christian.
Me and Johanna were going for the doubles title tonight but we came up just short. It was a good quality match and the team of Voskoboeva and Mladenovic came out a little bit too strong for us. Congrats to them! But to end up second isn't that bad. And even if it looks like in this picture that I just ate some lemons, I did have fun this week:
Funny after that match - it was pretty late and we were hungry. The one place you can count on then is McDonald's. Coming in there I did notice a few guys staring at us, they had just watched our match. Funny...... from the final straight to McDonald's... (very professional Sofia)....... but I did feel strong when I picked up my salad.... Okay I had ice cream too...
A bit nostalgic playing my last match on the center court in Memphis. Next year the tournament moves to Rio. It's like saying goodbye to a good friend. I would like to take it home with me =)
Thanks for all the good memories. Memphis will always have a special place in my heart!!
This week in Memphis is over and also my blog, so I would like to thank everybody who took time to read my blog. Hope you enjoyed it!!
