Bell Challenge

Saturday, September 7, 2013

The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best for today :)

Qualies first round began today so the Challenge Bell started to feel more real. As every tennis player must try to do, I had a good breakfast, arrived 30 minutes before my first hit at 10.30am and began warming up with my stretching routine before hitting with Lauren (Davis) at 11am.

Right now it's all about getting used to the pace of the court as it is a different surface to normal, being carpet and not hardcourt. The bounce of the ball varies slightly from the new centre court to the old practice courts and is quicker than the hardcourts we have been playing on lately.

After my hit we headed to lunch in the new players restaurant area, which overlooks centre court and is a cool place to watch matches whilst eating.

Jack, the tournament director, always makes sure we are well taken care of and today was no different. For Aleks (Wozniak's) birthday he provided an impressive looking chocolate cake to celebrate. Lucky her! And that's one of the reasons why the girls come back every year to the Challenge Bell - all of the tournament staff make us feel so welcome.

I had one more hit in the afternoon with my doubles partner for the week, Sofia Arvidsson, before heading to the gym for a recovery bike. Attached is a photo showing coach Bruno and myself analysing the day's work on the bikes - FYI he didn't actually use the bike for exercise, but more for a seat as there was nowhere else more comfortable to sit :)

It's always nice to play in your home country, especially this evening, as I had the chance to catch up with some friends over dinner. Relaxing times with very good people makes for a good end to a good day.

A demain!
