Bell Challenge

The second night match for me in two days, so my schedule remained pretty much the same as yesterday. A longer sleep than usual as I didn't want to arrive on site too early for a 1915h start match time.

A good lunch, a good warm-up, a good stretch after and a good snack before waiting to be called on court. The day passed quickly and I had my family following me every step of the way. It is always nice to have your family with you, supporting you. Familiar faces in the crowd help keep focus and also motivate at the same time.

I always want to perform in front of my home crowd and especially in a stadium like this. Mattek-Sands is close to the Top 50, had a great run at the French Open this year and varies her play extremely well. I had my game plan well prepared and knew that entering the court my main focus had to be on executing this as well as I possibly could.

I fought hard and I felt the crowd behind me all the way. Unfortunately on this night I got close, but not close enough, losing 6-3 6-4. I had to stay strong as Mattek-Sands started strongly and I fought back from 0-4 down in the second set, however this time she played well on the big points.

I love playing in front of my home crowd and really wanted the result to be different this evening. I worked as hard as I could but Bethanie was in very good form.

So, for me, it is head up, back to work and I will hit the gym and training courts tomorrow as I know I am playing well and heading in the right direction.
