Biography

Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua are an unlikely combination to some, with Barty a right-handed teenager and Dellacqua left-handed and more than 11 years older than her partner. Nevertheless, they have given Australian fans hope for another Grand Slam-winning duo.

All-Australian pairings capturing Grand Slam doubles titles was common in the early days of the Open Era. In fact, it happened 10 times but has not occurred since Kerry Melville Reid and Wendy Turnbull were victorious at Wimbledon in 1978.

But in three of the Grand Slams they have teamed up in, Barty and Dellacqua have been a win away from ending that drought - with runner-up showings at the Australian OpenWimbledon and US Open in 2013.

Also in 2013, Barty and Dellacqua become the first all-Australian pairing to win a WTA title in six years with a triumph in Birmingham.

"I just think we have so much trust and belief in each other. Whatever the situation is, we find a way," Dellacqua said. "Especially at the Grand Slams that's what it comes to, it comes down to the best team that can get through - you've seen it with the Bryans, and the other best teams in the world, they work together.

"I think that's what we do well and we don't complicate things - we just go out there and do our job and play to our strengths."

While virtually all of Barty's WTA doubles success has come alongside Dellacqua, Dellacqua is no stranger to Grand Slam success with others - having been runner-up at Roland Garros in 2008 with Francesca Schiavone and having won the 2011 French Open mixed doubles crown with Scott Lipsky.
