Biography

Two of the WTA's doubles stalwarts joined forces at the start of 2013 and already are a force to be reckoned with.

Nadia Petrova and Katarina Srebotnik did already have a bit of experience together, having teamed up as far back as 2003, with their union highlighted by a title in Moscow in 2008 and run to the final in Montréal in 2012. Then in their first event of 2013, they were victorious in Sydney. Later in the season, Petrova and Srebotnik captured their biggest title to date at the Sony Open Tennis in Miami.

"Obviously she has skills in doubles, which is great," Srebotnik said of Petrova. "I have also won many tournaments with quite a few different players. That's better than some doubles players who only do well with one partner in particular. So having that confidence is a big plus when you have to play important matches and have crucial moments."

Petrova has won titles with everyone from Martina Navratilova to Maria Kirilenko. Her greatest success came alongside Meghann Shaughnessy, with whom she netted eight of her 22 titles - one of them coming at the 2004 WTA Championships. She also won the season finale again in 2012 with Kirilenko.

Srebotnik's most prolific activity came with Kveta Peschke, with whom she collected nine of her 31 titles - including her lone major at Wimbledon in 2011. She also became doubles World No.1 after that triumph at the All-England Club, was named Doubles Team Of The Year with Srebotnik for 2011 when the duo also finished the year as the WTA's No.1-ranked team.
