"We only started playing together last week - we try to win, of course, but we never expected to win, especially since we started at two of the biggest tournaments," Mirza said. "To play so well with a new partner and to win two titles on the trot, it doesn't happen every day - it's tough to top this one."
More success has followed in 2014, highlighted by a title in Oeiras and a title defense in Tokyo.
Prior to her partnership with Mirza, Black was already a WTA legend. Her 59 WTA doubles titles are second-most among active players. Five of those titles came at Grand Slams (she also has five mixed doubles Grand Slam titles). Also, her 163 weeks spent as World No.1 is third-most all-time.
As for Mirza, she has 21 WTA doubles titles, and though she has yet to win a Grand Slam doubles title, she does have three mixed doubles Grand Slam titles to her credit.
