More success followed in 2014, highlighted by a title in Oeiras, a title defense in Tokyo and a triumph at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.
"We started off winning two of the biggest tournaments of the year in Beijing and Tokyo last year," Mirza said. "And to end this way, we couldn't have asked for a better start or end. It kind of sums up our partnership. And I've also found a great friend in Cara. Almost like an older sister to me. I learned a lot from her on and off the court. Hopefully, we will play together again one day, but our friendship will be on forever."
Prior to her partnership with Mirza, Black was already a WTA legend. Her 60 WTA doubles titles are second-most among active players. Five of those titles came at Grand Slams (she also has five mixed doubles Grand Slam titles). Also, her 163 weeks spent as World No.1 is third-most all-time.
As for Mirza, she has 22 WTA doubles titles, and though she has yet to win a Grand Slam doubles title, she does have three mixed doubles Grand Slam titles to her credit.
