Biography
Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci have evolved from a solid pairing their first two seasons together to one of the most dominants teams on the WTA.
First teaming up on a regular basis in 2010, they collected five titles over their first two seasons. They hit elite status in 2012 by capturing seven titles in the season's first six months, including five straight, highlighted by the French Open, where they became the first all Italian-duo to win a major. Their 25-match win streak, finally snapped in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, was the longest by a duo since Gigi Fernández and Natasha Zvereva won 28 in a row in 1994.
"Our success is mostly because I play with my best friend," Errani said. "She's older than I am and much more experienced, which helps me improve my game and makes me a better singles player. I love doubles; I have a lot of fun and it works well, which makes me want to keep playing."
Errani and Vinci picked up their second major at the 2012 US Open, which triggered Errani rising to No.1 in the world in doubles for the first time. Later in the season, Vinci supplanted her partner and herself became No.1 for the first time. They also qualified for the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships for the first time and were named Doubles Team Of The Year for 2012. Their Grand Slam success continued in 2013 with a title at the Australian Open, which included a quarterfinal triumph over the Williams sisters. They followed that up with consecutive titles in Paris [Indoors] and Doha and had a 15-match win streak - the second best of their partnership - that lasted until Indian Wells.
On top of that, Errani and Vinci have been Fed Cup stalwarts, compiling an undefeated record to date as a doubles team for Italy and being key ingredients in the country's championship runs in 2009 and 2010.
