They don't play doubles very often, but when they do, Serena Williams and Venus Williams are almost unbeatable. And when they play, it's almost always with lots at stake, as 14 of their 19 titles are Grand Slams or Olympics. Another incredible accomplishment is they've never lost a Grand Slam final and only once in any tournament final.
The sisters, along with Lisa Raymond, are the only active players to have completed the career doubles Grand Slam. Their Grand Slam haul consists of four Australian Opens, two French Opens, four Wimbledons and two US Opens. They are an incredible 33-3 at the Australian Open, 13-1 at Roland Garros, 32-2 at Wimbledon and 18-2 at the US Open. That's in addition to two Olympic gold medals in doubles.
Serena and Venus started playing together in 1997 and won their first title at Oklahoma City in 1998 and their first Grand Slam at Roland Garros in 1999. From 1999 through 2003, they won at least one Grand Slam every year. They didn't play in any majors in 2004, 2005 and 2006, finally getting back in the winner's circle at Wimbledon in 2008. For their 2009 efforts - which included titles at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open - they were awarded Doubles Team of the Year.
The sisters' dominance continued in 2010, as they picked up titles at the Australian Open for the fourth time, in Madrid and at Roland Garros, after which they ascended to the No.1 doubles ranking for the first time in their careers. Their latest French Open triumph also made them just the third team in history to hold all four majors at the same time, with Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver and Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva the others. They have not played doubles since Wimbledon in 2010 because of a variety of injuries.
