Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova first opened eyes at just their third career event together, becoming just the fifth unseeded team in 30 years to capture a major at Wimbledon in 2010.
"Doubles has always come easier for me, even before I was playing with Slava," King said. "I was always Top 30 but never had the success I've had now. We didn't expect this, because usually great pairs pair together for a long time to get to know each other and become a true team. We had that from the start."
King and Shvedova showed their success at the All-England Club was no fluke later in the year at Flushing Meadows, where they captured another major. Their Grand Slam victory streak finally ended in the semifinals of the 2011 French Open at 16 matches, the third-greatest winning streak to start a Grand Slam career a duo had in the last 30 years. More than just Grand Slam specialists, King and Shvedova have since picked up titles at non-majors too.
