"Today was really tough. We were supposed to play outside but because of the rain they switched us to an indoor court," Li said. "It was tough for all the players but I won the match, so it was okay. I saw Kateryna play Dementieva yesterday. She is an amazing player and has a very good serve. I lost the first set and was down in the second but I didn't give up, I knew I had to fight."
Sharapova lost the first set but fought back to beat Alisa Kleybanova, 26 62 62. The pair went to three sets in their only prior meeting too, with Sharapova beating her compatriot in a semifinal marathon two weeks before the US Open. Sharapova is the only former Toray Pan Pacific Open champion left in the field, taking the event in 2005.
