BEIJING, China - Elena Dementieva's Beijing honeymoon came to an end, as the Russian - who won Olympic gold in the Chinese capital a year ago and hadn't lost a set at the China Open this week - lost in the quarterfinals on Friday to Agnieszka Radwanska.
Beijing: QF Highlights
Dementieva, the No.4 seed at the $4.5-million tournament, looked headed for another straight set win as she built a 5-3 first set lead; but that didn't hold and Radwanska, the No.12 seed who reached her first semifinal of the year in Tokyo last week, won four games in a row to take the first set and eventually prevailed in straight sets, 75 63.
Highlights: A.Radwanska vs. Dementieva
"She's very solid on the baseline, getting everything back. The only way to win is to be aggressive, and I wasn't aggressive enough," Dementieva said. "I wish I would play longer because I love to play in Beijing. It's a special place for me. But now I'm just going to go home and get ready for Doha."
"I heard from others I played like Martina - she played really well and was my idol when I was young," said Radwanska on playing like former world No.1 Martina Hingis. "Martina didn't play powerful tennis and didn't hit as hard as Venus and Serena."

Another former Beijing standout, Svetlana Kuznetsova - a champion at the China Open in 2006, a runner-up in her only other two appearances at the event and the No.6 seed this year, reached the semifinals with a 63 63 win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

"Peng had a good week and good wins. She pleased the crowd. Now I need to have a good sleep and rest up."
