HOBART, Australia - Shahar Peer and Alona Bondarenko will play for the Moorilla Hobart International title on Saturday, after both recorded semifinal wins at the International-level tournament on Friday.
Peer, the No.2 seed, was the first to advance, routing an unseeded Sara Errani in just an hour and 18 minutes, 62 60. It was the pair's first meeting.
Bondarenko, seeded No.4, knocked out No.1 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues in the night time semifinal, 46 63 64, in two hours and eight minutes. It was Bondarenko's third win in four career meetings with the Spaniard.
Peer and Bondarenko have played five times, Peer up, 3-2. Without ITF Circuit events and Fed Cup though, the pair is 1-1 on the Tour, with both meetings coming on clay, the Israeli winning at Prague in 2006 and the Ukrainian winning at Budapest last year. Peer is 5-1 lifetime in singles finals on the Tour, while Bondarenko is 1-3.
Chan Yung-Jan and Monica Niculescu will face Chuang Chia-Jung and Kveta Peschke in the doubles final. Both teams are unseeded.
