INDIAN WELLS, CA, USA - She may not have been hitting the ball as well as she would like to so far this season, but one thing will not change: Jelena Jankovic fights until the last one. That was very obvious on Monday night as the former No.1 dug deep for a 26 76(6) 64 third round win over Sara Errani.

Errani, who has two Sony Ericsson WTA Tour titles and four career wins over Top 20 opponents, was knocking on the door of her first Top 10 win as she battled the No.9-ranked, No.6-seeded Jankovic on Court 1 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The Italian was just two points away from victory at 6-all in the second set tie-break and even had four points for a 5-2 third set lead; but it wasn't to be. Jankovic hit a winner on match point and dropped to the court.
"It was a tough match, not just physically but mentally too. She played really well," Jankovic said. "I wasn't playing consistently the whole time. I'd play a couple of points well but then would give away a lot of points too.
"When I was down 4-2 in the third, and 0-40 to go down 5-2, it was really a battle out there. Almost two breaks... I just tried to stay positive as much as I could. I just tried to fight for every point and keep going. I'm happy to win."

Jankovic came into Indian Wells this year with a 3-4 win-loss in Tour events, her best showings being third round finishes at the Aussie Open and Dubai. She was on the verge of another third round exit but now moves into the fourth round here. Her best showing at this tournament was the semifinals in 2008.
"I need these kinds of matches," Jankovic added. "It has been a while since I've played a lot of matches, and I think winning these kinds of matches can give you a lot of confidence. The more I play, the better I'll get. So I'm happy I will get another chance tomorrow."
