Radwanska, seeded No.5, was the first of the pair to advance to the Indian Wells semis, pulling off a minor upset over No.4 seed Elena Dementieva, 64 63. Dementieva led early, breaking for a 3-2 lead, but Radwanska won four of the next five games to take the first set and had fewer problems in the second set. It was her fourth win in six career meetings with the experienced Russian.
"Elena is always very tough. If it's an important moment, I've been a little bit better than her," Radwanska said. "This will be my second semifinal of the year, so I'm playing well."

"I didn't play the way I should have to beat her," Dementieva said. "I wasn't aggressive with my footwork or my shots, and I just made way too many mistakes. She was solid from the baseline, no mistakes. I feel I played the way I had to for one or two games, and it was not enough to win today."

Wozniacki, the No.2 seed, followed Radwanska into the final four with a 64 46 61 win over No.18 seed Zheng Jie. Having lost her first two meetings with the aggressive Zheng, Wozniacki made sure not to let the Chinese take too much control this time, staying with her from the baseline and with cleaner numbers, particularly in the third set.

Despite being one of each other's closest friends on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, Wozniacki and Radwanska have rarely met on the court. They are 1-1 lifetime, both meetings taking place at a smaller tournament in Stockholm, Sweden; Radwanska won in the 2007 quarterfinals, 64 61, while Wozniacki won in the 2008 semifinals by the exact same scoreline, 64 61.

Wozniacki is already projected to return to her career-high ranking of No.3 by reaching the semis; should she beat Radwanska and reach the final, she will rise to a new career-high ranking of No.2, only trailing Serena Williams.
The other two quarterfinals will take place Thursday, with No.6 seed Jelena Jankovic taking on No.23 seed Alisa Kleybanova and No.8 seed Samantha Stosur taking on No.28 seed María José Martínez Sánchez. Both doubles semis are also on the order of play (Stosur and Zheng are both in action).
