NEW YORK, NY, USA - American 18-year-old Beatrice Capra has opened eyes with her performance so far at this year's US Open. She had to win a US Open wildcard play-off tournament in Boca Raton last month just to earn a spot in the main draw at Flushing Meadows, and now she finds herself in the third round against three-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova.
Capra, ranked No.371, is the lowest-ranked player to reach the third round here since No.1102-ranked Bea Bealik did so in 2002 (not counting unranked Kim Clijsters' title run last year). So which wildcard entrants have had the best results in US Open history?
| Player | Year | Result |
| Kim Clijsters | 2009 | Champion |
| Severine Beltrame | 2008 | R16 |
| Serena Williams | 2006 | R16 |
| Martina Hingis | 2002 | R16 |
