Eleven Americans including Christina McHale, Nicole Gibbs and Alison Riske lead the field at the Newport Beach WTA 125K event, the inaugural event of the Oracle Challenger Series.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, USA – The Oracle Challenger Series is kicking off at the WTA 125K event in Newport Beach, and the inaugural field is highlighted by 11 Americans, including Top 100 players Varvara Lepchenko, Christina McHale, Jennifer Brady, Alison Riske, Madison Brengle and Taylor Townsend.

The Newport Beach event, to be played January 20-28, includes former two-time NCAA singles champion Nicole Gibbs of Los Angeles and former USTA Girls’ 18s singles champions Sachia Vickery and Sofia Kenin.

Former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone and Yanina Wickmayer, a former US Open semifinalist, are also on the entry list. The remaining spots in the draws will be filled by winners of the Qualifying tournament and Wildcards, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

The second event of the Oracle Challenger Series will take place February 24-March 4 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.  The top two Americans with the highest accumulated points in the Oracle Challenger Series will be awarded wildcards into the women’s  singles main draws at the 2018 BNP Paribas Open.
