BARCELONA, Spain - Roberta Vinci's 61 62 rout of fellow Italian Flavia Pennetta on Wednesday means none of the top four seeds at the Barcelona Ladies Open made it past Day 3 at the event.

Vinci defeated the second seed, who was the highest ranked player in the field at No.14, for the third time in five tries. One of those victories was in the semis of Bogotá in 2007 en route to Vinci's only Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title. Her quarterfinal opponent will be qualifier Anastasiya Yakimova, who got past Magdalena Rybarikova, 36 63 60.

On the top half of the draw, sixth-seeded Maria Kirilenko continued to look like she has a good chance of defending her title here, as she disposed of Severine Brémond, 75 62. The Russian, who raised her career record to 4-0 against Brémond, will next play the woman she beat in last year's final, María José Martínez Sánchez. The Spaniard, who won her first Tour singles title at Bogotá in February, survived a marathon match with lucky loser Masa Zec Peskiric. The 75 57 62 battle lasted three hours and 19 minutes. Zec Peskiric had knocked off fourth-seeded Kaia Kanepi on Tuesday.

Thursday's schedule is highlighted by the remaining second round singles matches: the highest seed left in the draw - fifth-seeded Carla Suárez Navarro - versus Emilie Loit, seventh-seeded Sara Errani - the only seed left in the bottom half of the draw - against Lucie Safarova, Nicole Vaidisova versus Francesca Schiavone and Stéphanie Cohen-Aloro, who eliminated top-seeded Alizé Cornet on Monday, against qualifier Tatjana Malek. The tournament's third seed, Anabel Medina Garrigues, withdrew with an abdominal strain on Monday.
