INDIAN WELLS, CA, USA - After a shocking first round in which the No.2, No.3, No.5 and No.8 seeds were all eliminated, two more seeded teams went down in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open doubles event. The one that was the biggest shock of all was Cara Black and Liezel Huber, co-ranked No.1 in the world and the No.1 seeds, falling to Alisa Kleybanova and Monica Niculescu, 75 76(6), in an almost two-hour match Sunday.

Kleybanova and Niculescu haven't won a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles or doubles title in their careers. Black and Huber, champions together 24 times on Tour, also lost in the round of 16 in their only other appearance at Indian Wells in 2005.

The other second round upset was Victoria Azarenka and Vera Zvonareva edging fourth-seeded Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs, 62 36 107, on Monday. That means of the eight seeds, only two reached the quarterfinals: sixth-seeded Nuria Llagostera Vives and María José Martínez Sánchez and seventh-seeded Maria Kirilenko and Flavia Pennetta.

Next up for Azarenka and Zvonareva are Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova, who took down Alona and Kateryna Bondarenko in the second round. Llagostera Vives and Martínez Sánchez go up against wildcard entrants Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Mashona Washington, who got past Svetlana Kuznetsova and Amélie Mauresmo in the second round. Also, Kirilenko and Pennetta take on giant-killers Kleybanova and Niculescu.

Other second round winners were Gisela Dulko and Shahar Peer and Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. Those two teams will square off in the quarters.
