LONDON, UK - There were no major surprises in the doubles event Monday at the All-England Club, with the No.1, No.2 and No.4 seeded duos joining the No.3 seeds in the quarterfinals.

Cara Black and Liezel Huber, co-ranked No.1 in the world and the No.1 seeds, experienced the stiffest challenge, being pushed to the brink before surviving Czechs Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, 26 63 64. Up next for the two-time Wimbledon champs are 11th-seeded Spaniards Nuria Llagostera Vives and María José Martínez Sánchez, who advanced when seventh-seeded Victoria Azarenka and Elena Vesnina withdrew before the match because of heat illness suffered by Vesnina.

Also in the top half of the draw is fourth-seeded Venus and Serena Williams. The sisters, who both won their round of 16 singles matches earlier in the day, had Monday's most dominant performance, hammering 13th-seeded Chinese Yan Zi and Zheng Jie, 60 60, to set up a quarterfinal encounter with No.12 seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Vania King.

On the bottom half of the draw, No.2 seeds Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual, who are seeking their third Grand Slam title together, got past Alla Kudryavtseva and Monica Niculescu, 75 63. In the quarters, the Spaniards, who lost in the third round in each of their previous two Wimbledons as a duo, will face Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makarova. The Russians, who won their first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles title together at Fès in May, edged 10th-seeded Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Nadia Petrova, 64 75.

Kristina Barrois and Tathiana Garbin also advanced Monday and will next play third-seeded Australians Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs.
