BAD GASTEIN, Austria - Seeded players put on an impressive show as first round play was completed Tuesday at the Nϋrnberger Gastein Ladies. Six of the seven seeds in action were victorious, including No.1 seed Alizé Cornet, who was pushed the most out of the seeded winners.

The 19-year-old Frenchwoman's 46 76(3) 64 victory over Mariana Duque Marino was a seesaw battle in which she took a 5-2 lead in the second set and lost four straight games before recovering to win in a tie-breaker. She also rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the third set. Cornet, a champion in Budapest and runner-up in Acapulco and Rome in 2008, is still struggling to find her form this year, having not won two matches in row since Dubai in February. Next up for her is Patricia Mayr, a 63 63 winner over Lourdes Domínguez Lino.

No.3 seed Sybille Bammer, a champion in Prague last week, got past lucky loser Nathalie Vierin, who made the main draw when Anastasia Sevastova withdrew with an ear infection. Also, fourth-seeded Iveta Benesova topped Alexandra Dulgheru, sixth-seeded Magdalena Rybarikova handled Mariya Koryttseva, seventh-seeded Anna-Lena Groenefeld defeated qualifier Zuzana Ondraskova and ninth-seeded Shahar Peer topped wildcard Tina Schiechtl.

The lone seed to fall was No.8 seed Lucie Hradecka, who was a runner-up here last year to Pauline Parmentier. Nuria Llagostera Vives routed Hradecka, 62 62. Also advancing were Parmentier, Yaroslava Shvedova, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, Yvonne Meusburger and lucky loser Tereza Hladikova.
