Dushevina Delivers On Day 3

ISTANBUL, Turkey - A day after the Istanbul Cup's No.1 and No.2 seeds were bounced, No.4 seed Aravane Rezai was sent packing as well.

Marta Domachowska outlasted Rezai in a see-saw battle, 63 46 64, to break a five-match losing streak on Tour and advance to her second Tour quarterfinal of 2009. Rezai is one of the crowd favorites in Istanbul, having knocked out Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova en route to the final two years ago. Next up for Domachowska is the winner of Thursday's match-up between eighth-seeded Lucie Hradecka and Julia Goerges.

The other two seeds in action fared better than Rezai. No.5 seed Vera Dushevina routed Maria Elena Camerin, 60 61, in a match that was remarkably different than their only previous match-up, last week in the round of 16 in Portoroz, when the Italian got the upper hand in three sets. Dushevina, who is 0-4 in quarterfinal matches on Tour this year, will seek to break that string on Friday.

Seventh-seeded Olga Govortsova, who also lost her only previous encounter with her opponent - Angelique Kerber - survived this time, 64 67(7) 64. Like Dushevina, she is winless in quarterfinals this year, 0-3, and on Friday will get a chance to reach her first final four of the year.

Also Wednesday, Timea Bacsinszky, a semifinalist at her most recent event in Prague, was up on Mariya Koryttseva, 62 36 41, when the Ukrainian retired with a right elbow injury.
