NEW YORK, NY, USA - Five of the six seeded teams in action were victorious on the first day of women's doubles action at the US Open, including the No.1 seeds.

Cara Black and Liezel Huber, co-ranked No.1 in the world, made short work of American wildcards Christina McHale and Asia Muhammad, 62 61. They are seeking their second straight US Open but first Grand Slam of the year, having lost in the quarters of the Australian Open and semis at the French Open and Wimbledon. Their five doubles titles on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in 2009 trails just Nuria Llagostera Vives and María José Martínez Sánchez, who have six.

No.7 seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai, champions in Sydney and Rome so far this year, had a tougher time Wednesday, but got past Chuang Chia-Jung and Aleksandra Wozniak, 46 63 62. Also moving on were ninth-seeded Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Patty Schnyder, 11th-seeded Yan Zi and Zheng Jie and 13th-seeded Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makarova. The one seeded team to fall was No.15 seeds Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, who were defeated by Vera Dushevina and Anastasia Rodionova, 64 61.

Among the seeded teams in action Thursday are second-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual, third-seeded Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs and fourth-seeded Serena and Venus Williams, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year.
