NEW YORK, NY, USA - It was a banner day for seeded doubles teams Thursday at the US Open, as all 10 of the ones in first round action were victorious.

Second-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual led the way with a 62 61 rout of Ayumi Morita and Melanie Oudin. The Spaniards, semifinalists here last year, won their second straight French Open earlier this year, their only Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title of the year so far. They are looking for their first major outside of Roland Garros.

Several other favorites also advanced easily, including fourth-seeded Serena and Venus Williams, who won their only title here in 1999. They defeated Julia Goerges and Arantxa Parra Santonja, 62 62. Also winning in straight sets were No.3 seeds Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs, No.5 seeds Daniela Hantuchova and Ai Sugiyama, No.6 seeds Nuria Llagostera Vives and María José Martínez Sánchez and No.8 seeds Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Nadia Petrova.

Meanwhile, 10th-seeded Maria Kirilenko and Elena Vesnina, 12th-seeded Vania King and Monica Niculescu, 14th-seeded Sania Mirza and Francesca Schiavone and 16th-seeded Victoria Azarenka and Vera Zvonareva all were extended to three sets, but moved on to the second round.
