LINZ, Austria - Several Sony Ericsson WTA Tour players took some time out late last week to visit Voestalpine, Europe's largest steel factory and also a tournament sponsor for the Generali Ladies Linz.
Petra Kvitova, Carla Suárez Navarro, Andrea Hlavackova, Lucie Hradecka and Jasmin Woehr donned their safety gear and were shown around the factory, and despite something of a language barrier for some, there was enough machinery movement, clouds of steam and red hot metal to keep the players more than enthused for the near-hour visit.
"Visiting the factory was an interesting experience," Hradecka said. "I had never been to something like that before and it was very impressive. It's nice to get away from the courts and do different things when you're at tournaments."
Kvitova wound up having the best week of the bunch, beating world No.10 Agnieszka Radwanska en route to the final of the International-level stop.
Voestalpine is an international steel company based in Linz, active in steel, automotive, railway systems, profilform and tool steel industries.
