Three Sony Ericsson WTA Tour stars made the Top 10 Most Searched Sports Teams/Athletes for 2009 on Yahoo!, it has been announced. Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and former player Anna Kournikova were all on the list.

Yahoo! releases the list annually, counting searches from computers and mobile web browsers. Sharapova came in at No.3 on the teams/athletes list, with Kournikova coming in at No.9 and Williams rounding it off at No.10.

After a nine month injury lay-off, Sharapova returned to the Tour in May and had a strong comeback season, winning in Tokyo and working her way from outside the Top 100 to inside the Top 15 by year-end. Williams won three titles - the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the Sony Ericsson Championships - and finished the year No.1. While Kournikova hasn't played on the Tour in several years, she has kept her name in the tennis headlines by playing plenty of exhibitions. She was ranked as high as Top 10 in singles and No.1 in doubles.

Other teams and athletes that made the list were football teams The Dallas Cowboys and The Pittsburgh Steelers (No.1 and No.8), boxer Manny Pacquiao (No.2), race car driver Danica Patrick (No.4), baseball team The New York Yankees (No.5), basketball team The Los Angeles Lakers (No.6) and mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano (No.7).
