MEMPHIS, TN, USA - Main draw action kicked off at the Cellular South Cup on Sunday and two Americans - Vania King and Bethanie Mattek-Sands - were among those moving through to the second round of the event.

First up was King, who was broken at love by Kathrin Woerle in the very first game of the match but quickly went on the rebound, winning six of the next eight games to take the first set then breaking in the second-to-last game of the match and serving out a 63 64 win. Following King on Stadium court was Mattek-Sands, a wildcard into the draw, who routed Katie O'Brien in 55 minutes, 62 61. Mattek-Sands lost just 12 points in her seven service games and broke O'Brien five times - including once at love and three times at 15.

Out on the Grandstand, No.5 seed Petra Kvitova broke away from 4-all in the first set to ease past Stéphanie Cohen-Aloro, 64 60.

Top seed Maria Sharapova takes the court Monday against Shenay Perry. Also in action are No.3 seed Kaia Kanepi and No.6 seed Kristina Barrois.
