Quarters Set In Bogotá
Pauline Parmentier

BOGOTÁ, Colombia - A tournament that looked to be upset-ridden two days ago when two seeds went down has since gone very much according to form, as six of the eight seeds at the XVIII Copa BBVA Colsanitas now occupy quarterfinal slots.

The only seed in action Thursday, No.7 seed Klara Zakopalova, endured a major test from Mariya Koryttseva, but emerged victorious, 16 63 64. The all-time series between the two is now knotted at 2, with Zakopalova getting revenge for her most recent loss to the Ukrainian in US Open qualifying last year.

Prior to this week, Zakopalova had not recorded a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour match win in 2010, but now she finds herself in Friday's quarterfinals - the first time she's been that far in a Tour event since Warsaw last May. She will play one of the two non-seeds left, Mariana Duque Marino, who edged qualifier Kristina Antoniychuk, 76(3) 76(10), despite falling behind 5-1 in the first set and having three set points against her in the second set tie-break. In reaching the quarters, Duque Marino - who is playing in her home country - ties the furthest she has ever gone in a Tour event, which also happened to occur at this tournament in 2008.

Thursday's only other singles match saw unseeded Pauline Parmentier defeat wildcard Catalina Castaño, 62 64. Parmentier, who lost to Castaño in their only previous meeting in 2008 at this event, next takes on fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber. Also squaring off Friday will be No.1 seed Gisela Dulko versus No.6 seed Sandra Zahlavova and No.3 seed Sara Errani against No.8 seed Arantxa Parra Santonja.
