KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Alisa Kleybanova's quest for a first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title got off to a flying start at the Malaysian Open on Monday. But while the fourth seed was too steady for fellow powerhouse Alicia Molik, No.5 seed Melinda Czink and No.8 seed Olga Govortsova were early victims at the $220,000 event.

Inclement forced the postponed of all doubles matches originally scheduled for Monday, which meant that Kleybanova's 61 64 defeat of Australian wildcard Molik was completed well into the night. Another wildcard, Yan Zi of China was more successful though, finally edging fifth seed Melinda Czink at 1.30 in the morning, 36 75 76(5).

Earlier, recently-minted Australian Anastasia Rodionova upset eighth-seeded Govortsova in see-saw style, 64 06 75. Teenagers Ayumi Morita of Japan and Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia were straight-sets winners over Galina Voskoboeva and Vitalia Diatchenko respectively, with Ekaterina Ivanova outlasting Darya Kustova in three.

The final round of qualifying was also completed, with Ksenia Pervak, Anna Gerasimou, Yurika Sema and Elena Bovina securing main draw berths. Ranked No.14 in the world in 2005, Bovina has been troubled by injury in recent years and is playing her first Tour main draw since reaching the second round as a qualifier at Estoril last spring. She faces No.3 seed Zheng Jie in the opening round.

Top seed Elena Dementieva makes her first appearance in KL on Tuesday evening, when she takes on fellow Russian Ekaterina Bychkova.
