Nine International events are in the books so far in 2010, and they have produced nine different winners, making the quest to qualify for a spot in Bali all the more intriguing.
Eight players who capture at least one International tournament during the year and who are not participating in singles in Doha will qualify for the second annual Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions from November 4 to 7. The $600,000, single-elimination event will be held at the Bali International Convention Centre.
Kim Clijsters and Yanina Wickmayer were victorious the first week of 2010 in Brisbane and Auckland, respectively. Wickmayer is the only International event winner so far who played in Bali last year. The next week, Alona Bondarenko won in Hobart.
Vera Zvonareva defended her Pattaya City crown the week of February 8. The following week, Maria Sharapova won in Memphis - her second Tour singles title since returning from an injury layoff - and Mariana Duque Marino captured her first career Tour title in Bogotá. The week after that, Venus Williams defended her Acapulco title, and Alisa Kleybanova won her first career Tour singles title at the inaugural Kuala Lumpur event. Finally, the week of March 1, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won her first Tour singles title in Monterrey.
