MIAMI, FL, USA - ESPN commentator and former Sony Ericsson WTA Tour star Mary Joe Fernandez visited Sony Ericsson Open sponsor SpendforED, a non-profit organization founded to raise funds for Miami-Dade's public school system as it battles increasing budget cuts.

The recently launched SpendforEd saw the sponsorship opportunity as a great way to acquaint locals with their creative fundraising model, where local businesses team up together to provide shopping discounts, with a portion of their customers' savings donated to the school system. It all happens through the magical currency of EdBucks - learn more about the process and the organization in general at the cause's official website, www.spendfored.org.

Fernandez reached No.4 in the world on the Tour, winning seven titles and reaching three Grand Slam finals; she was also a star in doubles, reaching a career-high of No.4 in that discipline as well. SpendforEd is happy to count Fernandez among its growing list of supporters.
