MARBELLA, Spain - In her very first match as a Top 20 player, Aravane Rezai made an impressive start to her Andalucia Tennis Experience campaign, crushing Spanish veteran Virginia Ruano Pascual, 61 61.

Rezai, the No.4 seed in the first tournament of the European red clay court season, was barely tested by Ruano Pascual, who was a wildcard into the draw. She lost serve in the second game of the match but barely looked back, reeling off eight games from there and even hitting four aces in the second set.

On Monday's rankings, Rezai inched from No.21 to No.20, her debut in the Top 20. It follows a stellar 12 months that has seen her claim her first two Sony Ericsson WTA Tour titles, at Strasbourg last May and at Bali last November.

"It's a great sensation," Rezai said. "I've been close for a while so it's not a huge surprise. It doesn't stop there. I've broken one barrier, but I have other things I'm working towards. My aim now is to get into the Top 15 as soon as possible."

Other winners were Polona Hercog, Tatjana Malek and Estrella Cabeza Candela, who saved match point at 16 45 and beat Petra Martic, 16 76(3) 62.

In another tight one, Lourdes Domínguez Lino and Arantxa Parra Santonja upset No.4 doubles seeds Anabel Medina Garrigues and Carla Suárez Navarro, 64 67(3) 1311. Medina Garrigues and Suárez Navarro had three match points late in the match tie-break but would fall to their fellow Spaniards.

Arantxa Rus, Laura Pous Tio, Simona Halep and Beatriz García Vidagany secured spots in the main draw with wins in the final round of qualifying.

Victoria Azarenka, the No.1 seed this week, plays her opening match on Tuesday afternoon against lucky loser Yvonne Meusburger.
