MARBELLA, Spain - One of the brightest young stars on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour officially stepped into a new decade on Wednesday, April 7 in Marbella, as Sorana Cirstea celebrated her 20th birthday.

Cirstea got a serenade from players in the restaurant upon receiving her cake. It followed an even bigger birthday surprise at her hotel in the morning.

"First I was woken with flowers from my agents at 8:15, then there was another knock on my door at 8:30 and my mother, brother and best friend had made a surprise visit to Marbella to wish me Happy Birthday! It's different now because I am changing the number in front, but I have 10 years to get used to it."

Cirstea was one of only three teenagers in the world's Top 40, and now leaves Caroline Wozniacki and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova as the only teens in that elite. Wozniacki turns 20 in July; Pavlyuchenkova turns 19 in July.

Currently ranked No.36, Cirstea has been as high as No.23. She has three Tour titles, one in singles (Tashkent in 2008) and two in doubles (Luxembourg and Fès in 2008). Over the weekend she began working with a new coach, Antonio Van Grichen, who has worked with Victoria Azarenka and Vera Zvonareva.
