BASTAD, Sweden - Three of the favorites for the Collector Swedish Open Women - including Flavia Pennetta - rolled through their opening matches on Tuesday, surrendering a total of only eight games between them.

Pennetta, Lucie Safarova and Gisela Dulko were all easy winners at the International event, with No.1 seed Pennetta and No.3 seed Safarova both recording 62 60 scorelines, against Swedish wildcard Anna Brazhnikova and German qualifier Kathrin Woerle, respectively. No.4 seed Gisela Dulko had a tougher test but still cruised, beating Swedish wildcard Ellen Allgurin, 61 63.

No.8 seed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova also advanced, but two seeds were bundled out, as No.6 seed Angelique Kerber had to retire during her match against Croatian qualifier Ana Vrljic and Anna-Lena Groenefeld sent No.7 seed Sofia Arvidsson packing, 62 64.

"I wanted to do so well, but things didn't turn out that way," Arvidsson said. "I wanted to show my best game and succeed here. I didn't raise my game enough, except during the last game of the match, but that was a little too late."

Arvidsson reached her third career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour final earlier this year in Memphis and is Sweden's No.1 player (at No.67 one of only two in the world's Top 450, alongside No.87-ranked compatriot Johanna Larsson).

Jill Craybas, Arantxa Rus, qualifier Nuria Llagostera Vives and American wildcard Sloane Stephens also recorded first round wins in Bastad.

The entire second round will be played Wednesday. Pennetta will take on young American Stephens in one of the eight matches on the schedule.
