BUDAPEST, Hungary - Alexandra Dulgheru avoided the rash of upsets that have befallen the GDF Suez Grand Prix the last two days, finishing off Anna Chakvetadze to secure a quarterfinal berth.

The second-seeded Dulgheru split sets with Chakvetadze on Wednesday before darkness suspended the match. After the Russian held serve to get things started Thursday, Dulgheru reeled off five straight games en route to a 76(5) 16 62 victory.

"It's not easy to play against Anna," said Dulgheru, who next plays Anastasija Sevastova. "She hits it deep and flat and I felt the balls were a bit heavy. Yesterday I felt I was running out of energy and was out of breath, so I was lucky the match was suspended. Today I was much more relaxed and feeling better. Anna put up a really good fight and I'm happy I could hang in there."

Dulgheru has rebounded from a rough start to 2010 in impressive fashion. Since losing in the first or second round of every Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event she played in from the start of the year through early April, her results have included a title in Warsaw and semifinal showings in Barcelona and 's-Hertogenbosch. That has led to her ascending to a career-high No.30 on this week's rankings.

Also advancing Thursday was No.4 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues, who handled Greta Arn, 75 63. Up next for her is qualifier Zuzana Ondraskova, who knocked off No.6 seed Roberta Vinci, 64 60, to reach her first Tour quarterfinal since Estoril in 2006.

Another of Friday's quarterfinals will be wildcard Alizé Cornet versus seventh-seeded Agnes Szavay. Both won in straight sets Thursday, Cornet over third-seeded Timea Bacsinszky and Szavay over Yvonne Meusburger. Cornet had lost four straight matches prior to this week.
