NEWPORT, RI, USA - Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva, who were considered one of the best doubles teams in tennis history, received the highest honor available in tennis Saturday when they were inducted to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Fernandez and Zvereva were among seven individuals in the Hall of Fame Class of 2010 who were honored in a Center Court ceremony at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island.

"I don't think as an athlete you ever make that a goal, it just sort of happens," Fernandez commented. "It's a proud moment for me and my family and it's also a proud moment for 4 million Puerto Ricans that are proud to have Puerto Rico represented in the Tennis Hall of Fame."

The duo won 14 Grand Slams together. They hold the second-longest Grand Slam doubles title streak in the Open Era, winning six in a row from the French Open in 1992 through Wimbledon in 1993 (second to Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver's record of eight). They were also named the WTA Doubles Team of the Year on four occasions: 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1997.

In honor of their induction to the Hall of Fame, a museum exhibit entitled Gigi Fernandez & Natasha Zvereva: Tennis' Yin and Yang has been displayed in the museum at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. It chronicles the women's success despite their cultural differences and features unique pieces such as the adidas sports bras they famously wore when they won the 1995 US Open.
