PRAGUE, Czech Republic - The main draw of the ECM Prague Open kicked off on Monday and the first real drama of the week came in the very first match, as Anna Tatishvili came back to beat Magdalena Rybarikova, 06 75 75.
Rybarikova reeled off the first seven games of the match before Tatishvili found her range, winning her next four service games and eventually edging her Slovak opponent under the hot sun of the Czech Republic's capital city.
"It was a difficult match for me," Rybarikova commented. "I've been injured for a while, so I was pretty tired as the match went on. We also played two and a half hours in difficult weather. Also, after winning the first set, I underestimated her, which was a great mistake. I'm disappointed with the loss today."
Polona Hercog followed Tatishvili into the second round with a 64 62 win over Tatjana Malek, and Johanna Larsson wrapped up the winners for the day with a 64 64 win over Czech wildcard Karolina Pliskova, who wasn't pleased at all.
"I lost and it was my mistake," the 18-year-old Pliskova said. "It wasn't that hot, in Australia it's much worse. I want to play more at the WTA level because I want to get better. Junior tennis is more simple - I should have won this match."
