PRAGUE, Czech Republic - The second round of a bizarre ECM Prague Open by Glanzis got underway Wednesday, with another seed going down without playing.

Top seed Lucie Safarova withdrew prior to her match with Johanna Larsson due to a left hamstring injury. Withdrawals are not a common occurrence for the Czech, as the only other time in her career she did so prior to a match was before her round of 16 encounter with Justine Henin in Sydney in 2008.

"I'm quite sad because I felt I was playing well, and I wanted to win in Prague," Safarova said. "Now I have to take two weeks off and see if I'll be able to play in San Diego."

Regardless of how she got there, Larsson finds herself in her first-ever Sony Ericsson WTA Tour quarterfinal. Her opponent will be another Czech, eighth-seeded Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, who got past qualifier Ksenia Pervak, 26 64 62. Zahlavova Strycova, who last week in Bastad reached her first quarterfinal on Tour since Bad Gastein in July 2009, now finds herself in a final eight for the second straight week.

"In the first set I didn't really know how to play. She gets a lot of balls back," said Zahlavova Strycova, who had failed to get past the round of 16 here in four previous appearances. "In the second set I was more patient and it went better. It will be better to play Larsson in the quarterfinals rather than Safarova, but I don't want to underestimate her, and I will still have to work very hard to win."

Also Wednesday, Anna Tatishvili rallied from a 4-2 first set deficit en route to a 64 63 defeat of lucky loser Eva Hrdinova to advance to her first career Tour quarterfinal. The 20-year-old is the highest-ranked Georgian on Tour at No.156.

In addition to Safarova's withdrawal, No.2 seed Alexandra Dulgheru withdrew prior to her second round match with a knee injury, No.3 seed Timea Bacsinszky lost in the first round Tuesday and No.4 seed Klara Zakopalova withdrew before the tournament with a stomach ailment, therefore only three seeds are left through just three days of play, led by No.5 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues. The Spaniard will be among those in second round action Thursday.
