KIEV, Ukraine - Alona Bondarenko recently entered the world of holy matrimony, marrying her coach, Nikolay Dyachok, at a small ceremony - and informally, wearing jeans and t-shirts that said "Just Married" - on Thursday, July 8. There was a reception with 300 guests on the weekend as well.
"As athletes we have to get married in something sporty," the 25-year-old Ukrainian No.1 said. "We didn't want pompous outfits."
The couple celebrated their honeymoon in Crete, Greece last week.
Bondarenko has had a strong year, highlighted by an eight-match winning streak that brought her a second career title in Hobart and then to her first Grand Slam second week at the Aussie Open. She has had wins this year over Jelena Jankovic, Francesca Schiavone and Caroline Wozniacki. Her next scheduled Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event is San Diego in two weeks.
Bondarenko, ranked No.29, and her younger sister, No.40-ranked Kateryna Bondarenko, are currently Ukraine's only Top 100 players.
