COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Chinese trailblazer Li Na made a winning start to her e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open campaign on Monday night, beating Czech wildcard Kristyna Pliskova in straight sets, 76(5) 63.

Li, who became China's first Top 10 player earlier this season but this week dipped just outside of that elite to No.11, had a tough time in the first set - letting go of a 4-1 lead before closing it out in a tie-break - but she eventually eased past the 18-year-old Pliskova with a routine second set.

"It was my first match since Wimbledon, so I'm happy I won," Li said. "She had a huge serve. She's a good, young player. She just won the Wimbledon juniors. My game was there, but I need to be tougher mentally."

Li is playing her first tournament since her quarterfinal run at Wimbledon, where she fell to Serena Williams. Next for Li is Britain's Elena Baltacha, who has two wins over her this year, or New Zealand's Marina Erakovic.

"I've played both Elena and Marina before," Li added. "You never have an easy match in tennis, so I'll watch them a bit tomorrow and get ready for it."

Other first round winners were No.5 seed Julia Goerges, No.7 seed Klara Zakopalova and No.8 seed Angelique Kerber. Goerges' 62 64 win over Stefanie Voegele was her 14th win in her last 15 matches, a stretch that brought her a first career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title at Bad Gastein.

Caroline Wozniacki won her first match of the week in doubles. She and Malou Ejdesgaard beat Yvonne Meusburger and Voegele, 61 64. World No.3 Wozniacki is the No.1 seed in singles and will begin Tuesday night.

"Malou is one of my best friends. It's nice to play with a person you really like and spend time with. It was also her first win at this level," Wozniacki said. "It was a nice crowd out there today and I felt really good out there.

"I'm really proud of having a tournament in Copenhagen. They've done a great job and Center Court is amazing. For a first time tournament, it's great."

Anna Chakvetadze, Anna-Lena Groenefeld, Marta Domachowska and Alexa Glatch secured main draw berths with wins in qualifying.
