CINCINNATI, OH, USA - Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs began their quest for their second Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title of the year on Wednesday, cruising past Natalie Grandin and Abigail Spears in their first match of the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open.

Raymond and Stubbs, seeded No.4 and the recipients of a first round bye this week, needed just 57 minutes to beat Grandin and Spears, losing serve twice but breaking their opponents five times en route to the victory.

Raymond and Stubbs won 32 titles together between 1996 and 2005 and, after four and a half years off, reunited at the beginning of 2010 and have been one of the top teams out there, winning one title (at the Premier-level tournament in Eastbourne) as well as one more final (just last week in San Diego, where they lost to Russian-Chinese duo Maria Kirilenko and Zheng Jie in the final).

The No.4-seeded pair will play its quarterfinal match Thursday night against American wildcards Carly and Chelsea Gullickson, who beat No.6 seeds Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makarova earlier in the week.

Other second round winners were Sania Mirza and Monica Niculescu, who upset No.5 seeds and recent Wimbledon champions Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova, 64 64, and the aforementioned Gullicksons.

The first round of doubles wrapped up as well, with No.7 seeds Zheng and Chan Yung-Jan, Kirilenko and Victoria Azarenka, and Meghann Shaughnessy and Elena Vesnina all winning through. Shaughnessy and Vesnina beat Akgul Amanmuradova and Vera Dushevina in a match tie-break, 46 64 107, and will next play No.8 seeds Cara Black and Anastasia Rodionova.
