MONTRÉAL, Canada - The first round of the Rogers Cup doubles event kicked off on Monday as well, with seven teams winning through to the second round.

Chan Yung-Jan and Zheng Jie, winners at Kuala Lumpur in February and runners-up at Stanford a few weeks ago and seeded No.6 at this week's $2-million tournament, had little trouble with Canadian wildcards Heidi El Tabakh and Rebecca Marino, breaking serve five times for a 62 61 win in 53 minutes.

Chan and Zheng were the only seeded pair in action on Day 1, but there was plenty of doubles talent on offer among the unseeded pairings, including Wimbledon finalists Elena Vesnina and Vera Zvonareva, who needed just 52 minutes to crush Nuria Llagostera Vives and Arantxa Parra Santonja, 62 60, winning 12 games in a row from 2-0 down in the opening set.

Czechs Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, who have won four Sony Ericsson WTA Tour titles together - including two this year - beat Hsieh Su-Wei and Alla Kudryavtseva handily too, 61 63. Benesova and Zahlavova Strycova next face No.1 seeds Liezel Huber and Nadia Petrova.

Another Czech pair with four Tour titles together, Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova, defeated Maria Kondratieva and Vladimira Uhlirova, 75 62.

Among the other winning teams was the all-star wildcard pairing of Daniela Hantuchova and Caroline Wozniacki, who fought back from a break down in the first set and three set points down 5-4 in the second set to beat Canadian wildcards Sharon Fichman and Marie-Ève Pelletier, 63 75. Hantuchova and Wozniacki next face No.3 seeds Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik.
