NEW HAVEN, CT, USA - The No.2 seeds fell in their first round match on Tuesday and as the first round wrapped up Wednesday the No.3 and No.4 seeds also fell. The No.1 seeds didn't follow the pattern, however.

Chuang Chia-Jung and Olga Govortsova upset No.3 seeds and recent Wimbledon champions Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova, 64 76(4), and Anabel Medina Garrigues and Yan Zi ousted No.4 seeds Cara Black and Anastasia Rodionova in a tough match tie-break finish, 64 36 1210.

No.1 seeds Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik had few problems though, cruising past Gisela Dulko and Ipek Senoglu, 62 63. "We played well today. It was quite comfortable," Peschke said. "It's always nice to get one under the belt and now we can focus on the next round. Although we didn't win in Montréal, we were still happy with reaching the finals there."

All-American team Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy was also among the winners, beating the wildcard pairing of Christina McHale and Riza Zalameda, 64 64. "It was a good start," Shaughnessy said. "We're looking to get a few more matches here as we get ready for the US Open."

All four doubles quarterfinals take the court on Thursday.
