NEW YORK, NY, USA - The semifinal line-up of the doubles event filled up at the US Open Wednesday, as the last two quarterfinals took the courts.

No.7 seed Chan Yung-Jan and Zheng Jie were the first team to win, beating No.15 seeds Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy, 64 64.

No.2 seeds Liezel Huber and Nadia Petrova, the highest seeds left in the draw after the quarterfinal defeat of No.1 seeds Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta, earned the last semifinal spot, pulling off a clutch break in the last game to edge No.5 seeds Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs, 64 36 75.

"We learned a lot from our loss against them in Cincinnati," Huber said after the match. "Today we served well and played quite aggressively. We try to have fun while we compete hard. Towards the end I told Nadia the ball is the size of a pumpkin - she smiled and that relaxed her on match point!

"It was a tough match and we're glad it turned out in our favor."

In the final game, Huber hit a forehand lob to set up match point. "I thought the match was over, but Stubbs got it and the point continued. I said a prayer for my ball to go in. It was very exciting having a 20 ball exchange on match point!"

By virtue of Dulko's quarterfinal loss, Huber secured the post-US Open No.1 doubles ranking, meaning she will spend her 141st week on top next week.

No.6 seeds Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova and No.9 seeds Cara Black and Anastasia Rodionova made the semifinals Tuesday. King and Shvedova beat Dulko and Pennetta; Black and Rodionova beat No.14 seeds and Wimbledon finalists Elena Vesnina and Vera Zvonareva.

"It was a great match. I think we all played really well," Black said of she and Rodionova's 46 75 64 victory over Vesnina and Zvonareva, during which they rallied from 64 42 down. "I think the biggest turning point in the match for us was when we broke their serve for the first time in the middle of the second set. That really gave us a boost and we improved from there in the match."

Black, a former No.1 in doubles, said she has been so busy all tournament long she hasn't been able to enjoy New York City. "We very sadly haven't done much since being here. We've been at the courts late every day. This is my first day off so I think a little bit of shopping may be on the cards today!"
