GUANGZHOU, China - The quarterfinal line-up was set at the Landsky Lighting Guangzhou International Women's Open on Thursday, with Australia's Jarmila Groth not only the top seed but now the only seed to reach her designated slot at the $220,000 event.

Groth, who this week moved up five places to No.55 in the rankings, held off a late challenge by Thai veteran Tamarine Tanasugarn to advance, 61 64.

"It was a tough match, especially the second set," said Groth, who has now reached the last eight three times this season. "Tammy started playing really well and had a couple of break points on my serve at 4-4, so that was a good game to win and then thank God I broke."

Next up for the Aussie is Maria Elena Camerin, who booked her place in the quarters on Wednesday, over seventh-seeded fellow Italian Alberta Brianti.

"I haven't seen Camerin play very much this year but she's an experienced player and it's not going to be easy," Groth said. "I will try to play my game and stay focused on what I have to do. Hopefully I can make another semifinal and I will do everything possible for it."

After the second round massacre of seeds on Wednesday - all four in action were dispatched - Japan's Ayumi Morita also fell on Thursday. The No.4 seed started well but succumbed in three to Romania's Edina Gallovits, 62 46 64.

The last singles winner of the day was 19-year-old Russian Ksenia Pervak, who beat her compatriot and doubles partner, Alexandra Panova, 75 26 60. On Friday Pervak, who reached her first Tour semi at Portoroz in July, plays Alla Kudryavtseva for another last four berth. Gallovits meets Chinese wildcard Han Xinyun and Zhang Shuai faces Sania Mirza.

A seedless doubles semifinals line-up has also been confirmed. Gallovits and Mirza play Olga Savchuk and Tanasugarn, while China's Lu Jing-Jing and Xu Yi-Fan tackle Han and Liu Wanting.
