TASHKENT, Uzbekistan - Nine days ago in Guangzhou, she had never been past the quarters of an event. She made the final there, and this week Alla Kudryavtseva went one better, winning her first title at the Tashkent Open.

Kudryavtseva, the No.7 seed, upset No.2 seed and Uzbek favorite Akgul Amanmuradova en route to a second straight final, then in the final fired five aces and grabbed critical breaks of serve in the seventh game of both sets to get past No.4 seed and fellow Russian Elena Vesnina in straight sets, 64 64.

"I was nervous today. I didn't expect to win. It was a high pressure situation," Kudryavtseva said. "My serve helped me more than anything else. I got it in big and it helped a lot. The score line made it look like an easy final, but it wasn't."

Kudryavtseva endeared herself even more to the Tashkent crowd during her trophy speech: "I'd prefer to go to a place where I feel at home, and here there are so many people who speak Russian. Moreover, one must go back to tournaments they win, as it brings back the happy memories from the year before. So even if I'm ranked higher next year, I will return to defend my title."

Vesnina's fell to 0-4 in finals, two runner-up finishes coming last year (to Elena Dementieva in Auckland and to Caroline Wozniacki in New Haven) and two more this year (to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Istanbul and here).

"I didn't play as well as I did the whole week but I congratulate Alla on winning her first title," Vesnina said. "Alla played amazing tennis today."

In the doubles final, Alexandra Panova and Tatiana Poutchek rebounded from an early 3-1 deficit to dispatch Alexandra Dulgheru and Magdalena Rybarikova, 63 64. Poutchek won her seventh Tour doubles title; Panova won her first Tour title of any kind. It was just the second time they played together.

"It's so incredible. So special," Panova said. "We will try to play more and keep the partnership going as long as the results keep coming."
